What the family receives

This is the parent's own page. One child — theirs — and nothing else. A parent holding a valid scope for evaluation dates still cannot open another family's case; that returns 404, because 403 would confirm the other child exists.

Dear Parent or Guardian, We are writing to update you on your child's special education evaluation. We received your signed permission to start the evaluation on June 30, 2026. By law, the school district must finish this evaluation within 60 days. This means our deadline to complete the evaluation is August 29, 2026. If August 29, 2026 passes and we have not finished the evaluation, you have the right to contact the school's special education coordinator immediately to ask for an update. You can also contact your state's department of education to file a complaint about the missed deadline. We are currently working to finish the evaluation. Once it is done, we will contact you to schedule a meeting. During this meeting, we will look at the results together and decide if your child is eligible for special education and related services. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact the special education coordinator at your child's school.

The page tells them plainly that this is a status summary and not the record, and that they may demand the complete file. FERPA gives them that right, and a portal implying otherwise would be worse than no portal.
