A person decides whether it sends

This is the letter, written for a family rather than for a lawyer. Nothing in it names a diagnosis, because the agent that wrote it was never given one.

Dear Parent, We are writing to update you on your child's special education evaluation. We received your signed permission to start this process on June 30, 2026. By law, the school district must finish the evaluation within 60 days. This means the deadline to complete your child's evaluation is August 29, 2026. If this date passes and we have not finished the evaluation, you have the right to contact the school's Special Education Office immediately to ask for an update, or you can reach out to a parent advocate or the state department of education for help. We are finishing up the evaluation process now and will contact you soon to schedule a meeting to talk about the results and next steps. If you have any questions, please contact the school's Special Education Office.

It is waiting. The fleet drafts and queues; it never decides to contact a family. Nothing reaches a parent without a named person on the record.
